Objectives, activities and expected results

The company Bulas Family Estates, Lda is a micro-enterprise established in 2013 with its headquarters located in Sabrosa. Its main activity is focused on the commercialization of wines, including Port wine. In terms of market performance, the company owns four brands, one registered at community level, Bulas, and the remaining three at national level, Quinta da Costa de Baixo, Foz Ceira and Demarcação. In the pre-project year, the company’s main export destinations are Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland, United States of America, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, United Kingdom, Canada, Austria, Hong Kong and Poland. With this project, Bulas Family Estates intends to expand its business to the markets of South Korea, Sweden and Czech Republic. Following its internationalization strategy, the company defined, among others, the following strategic objectives:

  • Invest on the differentiation of markets and products;
  • Create a company image of reference in the markets;
  • Achieve in the year 2023 an export rate of 90.51%.

In order to achieve the previously defined objectives, as well as put into practice the approach aimed at internationalization, the company intends to carry out the following actions:

  • Presence on the web, through the digital economy: Creation of the e-commerce platform, in order to promote and market the company’s products;
  • Development and international promotion of brands: Participation in wine tastings in Denmark, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium and participation in international wine competitions, in order to promote their products and brands and obtain recognition of their products in the external markets;
  • Prospection and presence in international markets: Carrying out prospecting actions and reverse missions in some external markets, namely South Korea, Sweden, Czech Republic, Denmark and United Kingdom, to show products and attract new customers;
  • International Marketing: Elaboration of brochures, promotional catalogs and roll-ups to attract new customers and promote the products and the company;
  • Introduction of a new method of organization in commercial practices or external relations: Hiring of two qualified technical staff focused on the area of ​​e-commerce and digital transformation.

Objectives, activities and expected results

Project supported and financed by European Union Funds under the SI Qualification and Internationalization Incentive System.

The company Bulas Family Estates, Lda., located in Gouvinhas, is a company established in 2013 and arises with the need to create a business structure dedicated to internationally commercialize the Douro and Port wines of the Bulas family.

The Bulas family produces the wines of the brands “Quinta da Costa de Baixo”, “Foz Ceira”, “Demarcação” and “Bulas” for several decades, and the main goal for the creation of this company was to professionalize the commercialization process of these wines of superior quality and with a growing notoriety in the international markets.

The Bulas brand is established in Portugal for several years, where it has always had good sales. However, given the growing importance of the international vision of business, the brand is already represented in several international markets, such as Germany, Denmark, Netherlands and Czech Republic, where it already has a recognized image.

The company, by investing in the continuity of the internationalization of its product, submitted an application to the incentive system of the Portugal 2020 program and intends, in the next two years, to develop actions in international target markets in order to increase its visibility.

The investment project consists of carrying out a set of international promotion and marketing actions, in a set of preferred markets, where it already operates and where it intends to be, namely Germany, Denmark, Poland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Sweden, United States of America, United Kingdom, Japan, Belgium and France.

The promotion strategy in these markets is based on a set of actions covering the areas of market characterization, definition of action plans oriented to the specificities of the company’s products and target markets, production of promotional and exhibition material, actions of contact and participation in international competitions. In addition to this, it will also carry out prospecting actions to attract new customers in new markets.

This project will contribute to the increment, in a dynamic factor of competitiveness, of internationalization.

Objectives, activities and expected results

Project supported and financed by European Union Funds under the SI Qualification and Internationalization Incentive System.

The company Bulas Family Estates, Lda., located in Gouvinhas, in the North, was established in 2013 and is applying for the incentive program, with the aim of strengthening its markets and its position in the external market, as well as intending to enter new international markets. The idea continues to be focused on the international marketing of Douro and Port wines from the Bulas family.

The wines produced in this region are characterized by high quality wines, in which Quinta da Foz Ceira and Quinta da Costa de Baixo have historical data on quality grape production prior to 1256.

The promotion strategy in the international markets of Canada, Japan, Sweden, Belgium, Poland, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Czech Republic is based on a set of actions that cover the areas of market characterization: definition of action plans oriented to the specifics of the company’s products and target markets, creation of promotional material, production of a promotional video, online advertising, carrying out contact actions, wine tastings, participating in international competitions and hiring of technical staff.

In short, with the realization of this project, the investments to be made will not change the company’s positioning in its value chain, but will aim to increase competitiveness, essentially allowing it to strengthen the commercialization phase of products for international markets.
